| Breheimsenteret
is the gateway to the Jostedal Glacier
National Park. It is a visitor's center,
and the museum and the are really worth
taking a closer look at.
The Glacier Bus arrives at the center
at 10.10, and leaves for the glacier at
12.00. You will have time for it all,
even to shop in the souvenirs section,
and have a good meal in cafeteria before
heading for the glacier.
The tickets for
the glacier hike you buy in the center.
Find out what hike you will join, and
get your ticket early.
The museum tells you everything you need
to know about the glacier, the nature
history behind the glacier, and also about
the life of the people living close to
the glacier.
The glacier is actually growing by several
meters each year, despite global warming;
or more correct: due to global warming!
There is also a section
telling about daily life today, in the
villages and farms close to the glacier.
And the film, on a big screen in the auditorium,
takes you outexploring the amazing nature
of the glacier, the Sognefjord, and the
Jotunheimen mountains.
There's also a lunch restaurant in the
center, serving warm and cold meals. The
restaurant also has a wonderful terrace
with the most spectacular view towards
the glacier. Imagine enjoying a cold beer
after a adventurous hike on the glacier!
Glacier
Lake Kayaking
Have you seen pictures from the Antarctic,
with huge icebergs floating in the sea,
and the enormous ice shelf in the back?
This is in fact possible to see in Jostedalen.
Just sign up for a day's adventure with
the Icetroll
glacier lake kayaking. You will not
only see the icebergs, you will paddle
among them, and if you're lucky, even
see big chunks of ice falling from the
glacier front.
But of course, you cannot do everything
in one short day. So why don't you spend
the night in Jostedalen, and really enjoy
all of these spectacular experiences described
above?
The Glacier Bus ticket is valid for several
days, so just check out the accomodation.
