Do I have to book in advance?
Not always, but to be sure of getting a place on the hike of your choice, it is smart to call or email a day or two
in advance. Phone +47 57683250 or email jostedal@jostedal.com
For the Family Walk, there is no reservation. You just meet at the foot of the glacier. There are several departures.
What shoes di I need?
Solid sports shoes or better are ok, but if you don't have that, boots are provided and included in the equipment.
What if the boat is not running?
In early summer, before the melting has lifted the water level, the boat can not run. Normally it starts sometime in the
first half of June, and runs to the beginning of September, everyday 10.00 to 17.00
Before that, the glacier hike groups are walking along the shore to the glacier, on a good trail. The walk takes appr. 40 minutes.
Where do I meet for a glacier hike?
For the Family Walk, you just meet at the foot of the glacier, where you meet the guides. You will then buy and get a guided hike of 1 hour on the ice.
Allow 1 hour to get from your car to the glacier. The guide and the equipment will be at the foot of the glacier.See timetables for the Family Walk here.
For all other glacier hikes the meeting point is Breheimsenteret, where you buy your tickets. Please see timetables, and be at Breheimsenteret
one hour before starting time. After you get your tickets, you drive on to the carpark at the glacier lake, where you meet your guide and get
the equipment.
What is a "private guide"?
A private guide means that you and your group will have a guide of your own, not mixed with other hikers.
A bit more expencive, but a lot more flexible and exclusive. You can decide when to start, when to take a break, and when to return.
A private guide needs to be booked some days in advance, and the option might be fully booked, since it is a limited offer. |
